Scheduling Military Honors: We understand the loss of a loved one may be a very stressful time. If you're working with a funeral home and request military honors, the funeral director will contact the Honor Guard to schedule these honors. The funeral directors are knowledgeable in how best to schedule military honors for each particular funeral. If a funeral home isn’t being used for your ceremony/event, please call the Honor Guard number to schedule a detail. The Honor Guard Commander, if available, will answer right away. Otherwise, leave a message and your call will be returned in a timely manner. Honor Guard dedicated phone - (717) 894-4515
Coffin Flags: The U.S. Government, via the Post Office, provides the funeral flags that drape a veteran's coffin. The York County Veterans Honor Guard does NOT supply these flags. If you're working with a funeral home, they will help with obtaining a flag. If you're not working with a funeral home, you'll need to fill out a form and take appropriate documentation (DD Form 214) to the Post Office to receive a coffin flag. On the day of the service, bring that flag and give it to the Honor Guard. That flag will be presented to next of kin during the funeral honors.
Donations to the Honor Guard: The York County Veterans Honor Guard is a 501(c)(3) Non-Profit organization. We're comprised of veterans who volunteer their time to provide funeral honors in York County. We're often asked how people can donate to us. We have no paid staff, but we do have monthly expenses, including uniforms, equipment, administrative, and operational costs, and we appreciate all donations.
